Hard waste

Hard waste refers to items that cannot fit in a regular household bin and are usually quite large, such as:  

  • carpet (up to three rolls) and timber (up to six pieces, no longer than 1.5m)
  • electronics appliances and e-waste
  • household furniture (wardrobes, cupboards, couches etc.) 
  • mattresses and bed bases.    

Free annual hard waste collection

We currently offer one free hard waste collection in September/October each year. Details on your collection week and disposal guidelines for this year’s collection will be available in July.

We recently asked our community whether they would like this service upgraded to two free collections per year (at whatever time is most convenient for you!) Feedback closed on February 18 and we are now going through the responses and will share the news later this year as to whether we will be moving forward with the proposed upgrade.

Step 1.Find out what goes in hard waste

Step 2.Book your collection

Kingston residents can book a hard waste collection at any time of the year for a $64.00 fee.

Book your collection using the below form . You will need a valid email address and phone number. Payment is by Visa or Mastercard only.

Alternatively, call our Customer Care team on 1300 653 356 and have your credit card details ready.

Step 3.Determine when your items will be collected

We collect hard waste every Thursday and Friday. Book before 11:59pm on Sunday night to get your items collected the following week.

Step 4.Put your items out

Do

  • place your hard waste on your nature strip the night before your collection
  • stack items neatly in a pile no bigger than two cubic metres (2m x 1m x 1m).  

Don’t  

  • place items out after your collection date 
  • leave hard waste items on private property, parklands or vacant land.   

Step 5.Wait for your items to be collected

If you book before 11:59pm on Sunday night, your items will be collected on Thursday or Friday.
