Council meetings

Kingston City Council comprises 11 elected Councillors. Council is responsible for making decisions on behalf of the community.

Council meetings are a vital part of the decision-making process. All Council meetings are open to the public (registration may be required) and held in person in the Council Chamber located at 1230 Nepean Highway, Cheltenham, unless otherwise advised.

All meetings are live streamed and the recordings are available following the meeting.

Council meetings are conducted in line with the City of Kingston Governance Rules(PDF, 834KB) and are held on the fourth Monday of the month. Planning Committee meetings are held on the third Wednesday of each month.

 

Petitions

Petitions may be submitted for tabling at Council Meetings.

Things to remember:

  • a petition must be in writing (other than in pencil), typed or printed containing the request of the petitioners or signatories 
  • the petition must be signed by at least 12 people. 

Council may by resolution accept electronic petitions if it is satisfied the petition is authentic from a legitimate website.

In addition, Council resolved at the 27 August 2018 Council Meeting that petitions to be presented at a Council Meeting, must be lodged with Council by 5.00pm 7 clear days before the date of the scheduled meeting.

Attending Council Meetings in person

You can attend our monthly Council Meetings in person at our municipal offices at 1230 Nepean Highway, Cheltenham.

Please note that Council Meetings may at times be held online and therefore attendance at the municipal offices is not open to the public. We will endeavour to provide as much public notice as possible so that you can view the meeting via our website.

Registering to attend

Registering to attend Council meetings is a practice that Council may implement from time to time to ensure the health and safety of all attendees.

How to access the building

You can enter the building via the main entrance facing the Nepean highway. A wheelchair accessible door is located to the left of the main entrance doors. Our concierge staff are available to provide assistance.

Facilities

Accessible bathrooms are located by the elevators in the main lobby on the ground floor. A private accessible-friendly bathroom is located by turning left when you reach the end of the lobby.

Accessible parking

An allocated accessible parking spot is located outside the main entrance facing the Nepean Highway. Additional accessible parking spots are located on the ground level at the multi-level car park located behind the municipal offices. These are accessible via Railway Road off Charman Road.
