Achievement and empowerment to be celebrated

Celebrating the remarkable achievements of women across Kingston and empowerment will be the focus of this year’s International Women’s Day (IWD) events in our city.

The presentation of the Kingston Women of the Year Awards will again be the highlight, with 29 outstanding nominees in the running across four categories - Courageous Commitment, Excelling in Arts and Sport, Inspiring Innovation, and Success in STEM.

Kingston City Hall will play host to the celebration that will also include entertainment from the Sapphire Dance Group, and a Q&A session with Lisa Gorman, the founder of the Gorman fashion label.

Kingston Deputy Mayor Tracey Davies said these will be our sixth Kingston Women of the Year Awards and once again we have been blown away by the quality of our nominees.

“They are all leaders in their field, who inspire others through their exceptional achievements,” Cr Davies said.

Yammerbook Ward Councillor Tamsin Bearsley said the annual awards are all about celebrating those women who are making an outstanding and positive difference in our community.

“The awards ceremony is always a great opportunity to meet new people and feel empowered in a really positive environment, so get a group together, book in and head along for what promises to be another great event,” Cr Bearsley said.

The Kingston Women of the Year Awards will run from 9.45am – 12.30pm on Friday 8 March. Tickets are free; however, bookings are essential for catering purposes.

The UN theme for IWD in 2024 is Count Her In: Invest in Women. Accelerate Progress, with this year’s campaign focused on highlighting how women’s economic empowerment is central to a gender equal world.
