Social Media Community Guidelines
We see social media as an important way to keep our community up to date with all the latest information and events in our great city.
City of Kingston welcomes participation on our social media channels and we encourage you to interact with us often. We hope to provide a forum for dialogue among the many diverse voices of our community, and we encourage you to join in, contribute to discussions and share information with us and other users.
Content posted on City of Kingston's social media pages is monitored and moderated by Council during business hours from Monday to Friday, except public holidays. We make reasonable efforts to monitor participation to ensure comments posted are courteous and inoffensive.
We want this page to be a respectful and safe place for our community to share their thoughts, so please remember to be polite when interacting online.
In the interests of maintaining an open forum, we would prefer not to delete comments. However, the City of Kingston reserves the right to report users who breach the relevant social platform's Terms of Use and will delete or hide any content that:
-
Is defamatory or singles out an individual in an abusive or negative manner (including Kingston Council employees, Councillors, contractors, volunteers and members of the community)
-
Contains demeaning, inappropriate or discriminatory language or remarks
-
Is spam or a direct advertisement for a business or product
-
Breaks any law, or encourages others to do so
-
Incites violence
-
Invades an individual’s privacy
-
Encourages the use of alcohol, tobacco or illegal drugs
-
Harasses or bullies
-
Is trolling or intends to deliberately disrupt a conversation
-
Is false, misleading or deceptive
-
Is generally not suited for an audience of all ages
Keep in mind, comments made by other users on Council’s social media pages do not necessarily reflect the opinions of Kingston City Council, nor does Kingston City Council confirm their accuracy.
If you are concerned about content or comments on Council’s page, or wish to make a complaint, see our complaints process. We will endeavour to take action as soon as possible during monitoring hours.
From time to time, we may mention or tag a local business or organisation in or nearby to Kingston. This is not to be viewed as a formal endorsement in any way and does not necessarily mean Council has a partnership or sponsorship agreement with that business.
Please note: these guidelines cover all our social media channels including Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, LinkedIn and X.
