The City of Kingston’s Annual Grants Program provides an opportunity for the Council to work in partnership with the local community.

Program objectives:

  • Provide equal opportunity for the community to seek funding assistance from Council
  • Address needs within the community
  • Support initiatives that increase community participation, development and inclusion
  • Assist Council to deliver on identified priorities and strategies

We also aim to foster support across a range of areas including:

  • Health and welfare
  • Community support
  • Arts and culture
  • Sport and recreation
  • Environment
  • Hall hire costs within Kingston 

Eligibility

Community groups and organisations must meet the following eligibility criteria:

  • Not-for-profit and managed by volunteer board/committee of management who have complied with Consumer Affairs Victoria obligations.
  • Incorporated or backed by another incorporated organisation who will accept legal and financial responsibility for the project/activity.
  • Physically located within the City of Kingston municipal boundaries. Consideration may be given to other groups/organisations where 50% or more of their membership comprises Kingston residents or where there is a direct and significant benefit to Kingston residents.

Assessment Panel Recruitment

Kingston Council offers approximately $1.8 million in grants to not-for-profit community organisations and groups. We are seeking three volunteers to join our Grants Assessment Panel, who will convene twice a year: once around April and once around August (timing is subject to change).

The purpose of the Grants Assessment Panel is to:

  • Review and confirm the outcomes of individual assessments for grant applications for nominated grant streams of the Kingston Grants Program.
  • Provide advice regarding grant applications.
  • Agree on funding recommendations and recommended funding amounts that will be progressed for funding decision by Councillors at a formal meeting of Council.

Appointment will be for a period of up-to three years.

Arts Grants

Individual artists, not-for-profit arts groups and organisations are invited to make an application for an Arts Grant as part of the wider Community Grants Program.

Kingston’s Arts Grants 2023-2024 are now closed.

  • Arts projects for professional and emerging artists (up to $5,000)
  • Local makers and creative businesses (up to $4,000)

Children's Week Grants

Applications for Kingston’s Children’s Week Grants are now closed.

Our annual Children’s Week Grants program aims to create a stronger and more connected community by providing families and children the opportunity to join in a range of activities or events.

Grants of up to $1,000 assist local community groups and not-for-profit organisations to deliver a one-off activity or event that celebrates Children's Week, held annually in October. This national event supports the rights of children to enjoy their childhood and the role children play within the family and our broader community.

Individual Development Grants

Applications are open all year for permanent Kingston residents to support achievement and development in:

  • Sport and recreation
  • Arts
  • Humanitarian and
  • Environmental issues

Funding:

  • State level $125
  • National level $250
  • International level $500
  • 20% extra for Health Care Card holders

Applications are welcome from individuals who are:

  • Participating as an individual or as part of a team or group
  • Able to demonstrate a record of achievement and practice in their field of pursuit
  • Covered by adequate insurances
  • Representing in a recognised State/National/International competition
  • Sporting applicants must be selected individually or as part of a team through a competitive process for the right to compete at State, National or International level
  • Engaging in an activity that is recognised by a relevant State/National/International professional body or institution, or engages with an established professional artist that has made a recognised and significant contribution to their practice.

Quick Response Grants

Following a review of Council's Grants programs, Council will be commencing a new grant stream in 2024.

Final applications for Quick Response Grants close at close of business on Friday 17 November 2023 for consideration at the December Council meeting.

From 1 January 2024 you will be able to apply to a new 'Community Small Grants' stream.

About the Quick Response Grants

Individuals and community groups have the opportunity to apply for small grants at short notice, to help them deliver valuable services, programs, activities and events. 

Who can apply?

Not-for-profit groups, schools or community organisations providing services within the City of Kingston and individuals who live in the City of Kingston.

What can Quick Response Grants be used for:

Community groups can apply to assist with the provision of a service, program or activity used by or of benefit to Kingston residents and hall hire costs;

Individuals can apply to assist them to participate in personal development activities including:

  • Sporting
  • Educational
  • Recreational
  • Cultural

Any other pursuit of a personal development nature, which will have a clear benefit to the community.

How do I apply?

Applicants must meet the eligibility criteria in the guidelines.

  • Applicants can apply for up to $1,500 within one financial year
  • Applicants must be able to demonstrate that the proposed activity/event/project benefits our Kingston community
  • Applications take approximately six weeks to process

What happens after I apply?

  • Applications are assessed for eligibility and considered for approval at a Council Meeting
  • Applicants will be notified of the outcome after the meeting.
