Financial hardship support

This application is for residential ratepayers who are suffering extreme financial hardship.

We offer support through hardship applications, which may include:

  • rates deferrals
  • payment arrangements based on your ability to repay

In extreme circumstances, we may assess an application for a partial or full rates waiver (section 171A, Local Government Act 2020).

Interest is not charged for the approved hardship period and will not accrue on approved short-term or long-term applications.

Who can apply?

  • residential properties only
  • must be owner-occupied/principle place of residence
  • investment properties are excluded and are ineligible.

How does the process work?

All applications are subject to assessment, and further information may be requested to process your application.

Financial hardship applies from the date of assessment, is only granted for a maximum of 12 months at a time, and will not be automatically renewed. Ongoing hardship (where applicable) is to be applied for annually.

To assess your application, we need: financial records, medical certificates, income statements, tax returns or financial counsellor recommendations.
