Mentone Beach

Mentone Dog Beach.jpg

The Mentone Foreshore Precinct is the northern starting point of a long stretch of curved coast stretching from towering buffs at Rickets Point, around the edge of what was known as Beaumaris Bay. It contains one of Melbourne's most popular dog beaches, the Bay Trail - a concrete path decorated with mosaics - surf club, with shower and toilets, playground, car parks, picnic tables and seating.

Mentone was one of Melbourne's first summer resort areas, and previously had a lively pier and public baths, while the cliffs at the northern end of the beach attracted notable artists including Tom Roberts, Arthur Streeton and Frederick McCubbin of the Heidelberg School of painters.
