Keeley Park is a popular sports venue and community recreation space.

The council has recently undertaken improvement works to enhance the facilities and to allow for grater and safer enjoyment of the open spaces in the reserve.

The three stage development included the following works:

  • new sports ground lighting for the soccer field
  • three new sealed car parks next to the football/cricket oval, the soccer pavilion and the scout hall/men’s shed
  • new pedestrian paths, public lighting and park fencing
  • extensive plantings and landscape works.

A new playground was created, offering an enhanced play experience for children of all ages. New play equipment included a climbing web with slide, a structure with climbing walls, two slides connected walkways, tunnels and monkey rungs, a flying fox, sandpit with water pump, various swings, surfboard springers, and stepping stones.

A sheltered BBQ area with tables and seating, picnic tables and drinking fountain have been added for social gatherings.

In addition to the cricket and soccer ovals, home to Kingston City Soccer Club, Omega Cricket Club and Carnegie United Cricket Club, there is half court basketball and outdoor exercise equipment for community use.

An innovative new stormwater collection drainage system gathers water, which is then filtered through a vegetated rain garden and cleaned for reuse, and stored in large rainwater tanks holding 470,000 litres and used to irrigate the park’s sporting grounds, which will save millions of litres of drinking water each year and reduce the cost of water bills for the park.
