Out of the ground and boosting the local economy!

Published on 21 August 2025

The Mordi Aquatic Centre isn’t just a great new community facility taking shape, it’s also creating opportunities for local businesses. Around a third of the tradespeople on site are from south-east Melbourne, providing a welcome boost to local jobs and our local economy. And with a new café opportunity soon to open for expressions of interest, there’ll be even more ways for local businesses to be part of this exciting project.

Serve it up: Café opportunity at Mordi Aquatic Centre

We’re on the lookout for an experienced café operator to bring the flavour to Mordi Aquatic Centre.

With thousands of visitors expected each week, from early-morning lap swimmers and families at swimming lessons, to gym-goers and spectators at events, the café will be at the heart of the action.

If you’re ready to serve up great coffee, fresh food and friendly service to a buzzing community (or know someone that is!) we’d love to hear from you. The formal Expressions of Interest process will launch later this year. To be the first to know when it opens, register your interest online.

Construction is powering ahead, and the building is really starting to come to life. Viewing windows have been installed in the site fencing so you can see the progress for yourself. In the meantime, here’s a snapshot of what’s been happening:
