We are excited to join forces with our neighbouring councils to host the Biodiversity Blitz 2025! A BioBlitz is an intense, fast-paced event where scientists, volunteers, and community members work together to document all living species in the area.

You can take part by adding your own observations - whether from your backyard, a local reserve, or during your daily walk - and contribute to citizen science. If you find a plant or animal you can’t identify, don’t worry! The helpful iNaturalist community is ready to assist with identification.

Join the fun and help Kingston shine. We’re running a friendly competition among all 14 councils in the region.

Then (until Tuesday 30 September) head outdoors in Kingston to snap photos of plants, animals, and fungi, and upload your observations to iNaturalist. Your contributions will automatically be added to the project.

By taking part, you’ll support community science and help showcase the incredible biodiversity Kingston has to offer. Let’s work together to discover and celebrate the amazing natural world around us!

To get started, visit the iNaturalist website to download the app (from Google Play or App Store) to your smartphone and create your account.

These resources will help you get started on the iNaturalist App and make your first observation:
