Outdoor Activations

As the Victorian Government moves towards the easing of restrictions, we are reviewing several outdoor activities to support local businesses establish and expand their outdoor trading this summer.


Footpath Trading

Footpath trading refers to using part of the footpath directly in front of your business for activities such as:

  • Outdoor dining
  • Selling products
  • Displaying signage
How do I apply?

Complete the Footpath Activities Permit Application and provide:

  • A site plan of the footpath area
  • A certificate of currency for at least $20m public liability cover
  • A form of indemnity

If you already have a permit, you may use the footpath for outdoor trading. No further action is needed.

What are the fees?

We have waived the fees for Footpath Trading until Sunday 31 July 2022.



Expanded Footpath Trading

Expanded Footpath Trading refers to expanding your footpath trading zone to the footpath in front of an adjacent business.

Fill out the Expanded Footpath Trading Application Form and provide:

We have waived the fees for Expanded Footpath Trading until Sunday 31 July 2022.



Parklet Program (adjacent kerbside car park trading)

A temporary parklet allows hospitality businesses to extend their outdoor dining to car park spaces. If you have car park spaces directly adjacent to your business, you may be eligible for a parklet this summer.

How do I apply?

Outdoor Dining Pop Up

Outdoor Dining Pop Ups support hospitality businesses temporarily move from an indoor setting to an outdoor pop up on Council-owned land.

Am I eligible?

Your Pop-Up must meet these conditions:

  • Have tables, chairs, lighting, umbrellas only (no marquee, kitchen, bar)
  • Have no more than four trading days per week
  • Have all furniture (tables, chairs etc) removed outside business hours
  • Have a seating capacity no greater than your business premises
How do I apply?

Fill out the Outdoor Dining Pop Up Application Form and provide:

  • A site plan of the area
  • A certificate of currency for at least $20m public liability cover

If your Pop Up does not meet the above conditions, you can apply for Commercial Use of Council land. This includes Pop Ups that have:

  • An enclosed marquee, kitchen, or bar
  • More than four trading days per week
  • A seating capacity greater than your business premises

Temporary Picnic Tables

We’re adding 100 temporary picnic tables to parks and reserves across Kingston to provide more shared outdoor seating options for our community.

FAQ


Can I serve alcohol in my footpath zone, parklet or pop up?

If you have a liquor license, you can apply for an outdoor area temporary licence. To learn more, visit the Victorian Commission for Gambling and Liquor Regulation.



How long will it take to process my application?

We aim to fast track all applications. Footpath Trading and Expanded Footpath Trading applications are best placed for quick approval. Applications for Parklets and Outdoor Dining Pop Ups may take longer.
