Waste education tip - triangle symbol

The triangle symbol with numbers 1-7 is an industry-specific code and doesn't mean that products can be recycled. The number identifies the type of plastic; however, additives may have been added in the manufacture process to make it non-recyclable.

An example: A number 6 plastic is polystyrene.
In its rigid state, it could be used as yoghurt containers or margarine tubs (recyclable). In its expanded state, it could be used as foam peanuts or white foam packaging (not recyclable).
