Kingston residents can now recycle their soft plastics by taking them to a soft plastics drop-off point.

Soft plastic items include:

  • Plastic bags
  • Pasta and rice bags
  • Biscuit packets
  • Veggie produce bags
  • Frozen food bags
  • Cling wrap

There are five soft plastics drop-off points in Kingston:

Bins are located inside the facilities and are accessible during their respective opening hours. 

Frequently Asked Questions

How much can I drop off?
Residents can drop off household soft plastics; however, we do not have the capacity to collect commercial quantities.

Do I need to wash the soft plastics before I drop them off?
You do not need to wash your soft plastics; however, they should be free from food or other materials.

Can I drop off coloured or printed soft plastics?
Yes, we accept coloured and printed soft plastic.
 
Do I need to peel stickers off the soft plastics?
A small amount of paper stickers on the soft plastic is acceptable.

How do I know if soft plastic is acceptable for recycling?
If you can scrunch it into a ball, then it can be placed in soft plastic recycling.

What will happen to the soft plastics?
APR Plastics will process it back into a liquid form of petrochemical and provide raw materials for further plastic production or fuels.

How often will the soft plastics be collected from the drop-off points?
We intend to collect the soft plastics several times per week from each drop-off point. 

When is Redcycle coming back?
We expect to see the soft plastics recycling program resume at supermarkets later this year.

Is Kingston's soft plastic recycling program ongoing?
This is a temporary service available to Kingston residents until the soft plastics recycling program resumes at supermarkets.
