Frequently asked questions

How do I apply for term only sessions?

To enrol in term only sessions at one of our Family and Children’s Centres, follow the registration process for sessional kindergarten.

How do I apply for extended sessions?

To enrol in extended sessions, contact our centres directly:

If you already have a child enrolled in one of our centres, log into your Xap account to apply for extended sessions.

If my child attends term only sessions and extended sessions, do they need to attend the minimum for both types of care (four days total)?

If your child is enrolled in term only sessions and receives 15 hours of funded kindergarten, there is no minimum requirement for attending extended sessions, however you will need to pay the full fee of $142 per day.

I have put in a preference for term only sessions, but would also like my child to attend one extended session per week. Do I contact the centre directly to apply?

Yes. You will need to contact our centres directly to enrol your child in extended sessions:

If you already have a child enrolled in one of our centres, you can log into your Xap account to apply for extended sessions.

Will 3-year-old and 4-year-old kindergarten children be in the same room?

No. We will have a room for children attending 3-year-old kindergarten and a room for children attending 4-year-old kindergarten.

What is the timeline for offers?

Central registration will offer families term only sessions during the week of 25 July.

Family and Children’s Centres will also offer extended sessions (to families accessing the program as their funded year of kindergarten) during the week of 25 July.

Where vacancies remain, extended sessions will be offered to children accessing the program as additional days of care (non funded) in accordance with the priority of access criteria. We anticipate this to occur in Term 4 2022 and Term 1 2023.

If we can only enrol our child in extended sessions, are they going to be disadvantaged in any way in terms of their learning?

Children attending extended sessions will receive the same learning as children who attend term only sessions. The kindergarten teaching team deliver the same program to all children accessing either the 3-year-old or 4-year-old kindergarten, regardless of which sessions they attend.

If my child is booked into extended sessions will there be a kindergarten teacher working across the week?

Yes, our kindergarten teachers team teach across the week during the term. During school holidays, our teaching team continue to deliver the program.

What are the group sizes?

Group sizes will be determined to meet demand and staffed accordingly. It is anticipated that there will be a maximum of 33 children and 4 regular staff per group.
