As part of the State Government’s program to remove level crossings along the Frankston Line, the level crossing at Latrobe Street, Mentone is proposed to be permanently closed.
While we support improvements to rail safety and traffic flow, we’re urging the State Government to undertake detailed traffic modelling and thorough community consultation to fully understand the impacts this closure may have on surrounding streets, local traffic movements and neighbourhood amenity.
It is important that any changes are managed carefully and sensitively to minimise unintended consequences for local residents, businesses and commuters, and to ensure surrounding roads are able to safely accommodate changes in traffic conditions.
We will continue to advocate for solutions that balance transport improvements with the needs and concerns of the local community.
