Plastic takeaway food containers can go into your recycling bin (yellow lid). Please rinse or scrape away food residue (a very small amount remaining is ok, i.e. tomato paste under the rim) Place any hard or rigid plastic food containers in the recycling bin. Any food packaging that is soft and scrunchable goes into the landfill bin (red lid).
The triangle symbol with numbers 1-7 is an industry-specific code and doesn't mean that products can be recycled. The number identifies the type of plastic; however, additives may have been added in the manufacture process to make it non-recyclable.
An example: A number 6 plastic is polystyrene.
In its rigid state, it could be used as yoghurt containers or margarine tubs (recyclable). In its expanded state, it could be used as foam peanuts or white foam packaging (not recyclable)
