Indigenous plants

Indigenous plants, including grasses

Indigenous plants are native plants that occur naturally in an area.

The benefit of growing local plants are that they:

  • are suited to our local soil and climate
  • provide food and shelter for local wildlife
  • are low maintenance
  • thrive without watering once established
  • thrive without fertilisers
  • have greater resistance to disease
  • grow quickly and often flower within the first season of planting
  • can strengthen local wildlife corridors.
