Attracting small birds to your garden
The majority of small birds are insect-eaters (a great natural pest control). Exceptions are finches (eat seeds) and Silvereyes (eat berries).
Habitat tips
- Plant small leaved or prickly indigenous shrubs for protection and safe nest sites
- Plant a row of dense shrubs 1-2m tall along the fence to create a small bird corridor
- Plant a range of layers including prickly wattles, tea-trees, correas and climbers
- Provide a shallow dish of fresh water in an elevated cat-safe safe position for bathing and drinking
- Create open areas for foraging
- Mulch garden beds to attract tasty insect treats
- Practice natural pest control
- Keep your cat contained 24/7

- Carnivorous birds
- Wattlebirds
- Noisy Miners
- Cats and dogs (containment essential)
- Pesticides
- Lack of tall dense shrubs
