The Victorian Government is trying to compel councils across Victoria to introduce a separate glass-only bin for household use. The idea behind it is that if you have a separate bin for glass, then paper and glass items will be kept apart, and contamination will be kept to a minimum.
The problem is, this purple bin would cost nearly $3m to implement. The City of Kingston doesn’t support this measure because ratepayers will have to pay for it, and the evidence so far shows that it doesn’t work to improve recycling outcomes.
And who wants a fourth bin in their home? Tell the candidates in your electorate that you don’t think the purple bin is a good idea and the concept should be scrapped.
