Housing affordability continues to be a growing challenge across Kingston, with around one in every 150 local families experiencing homelessness in a typical year. In addition, low and very low-income households make up approximately 7 per cent of all households within the municipality.
These figures highlight the urgent need for increased affordable housing options to support a diverse, inclusive and growing community.
We are calling for greater investment in affordable and social housing to ensure people on lower incomes, key workers, older residents and vulnerable members of the community can continue to live locally and access the services and support they need.
We are also seeking stronger State Government action to expand the supply of social housing and provide better support for people experiencing homelessness, including rough sleepers across Kingston. A coordinated approach between local and state government is essential to improving housing security and creating a more connected and resilient community for the future.
