The pavilion and sporting facilities at Walter Galt Reserve are being developed to better meet the needs of our current and future Parkdale community. This $3.45 million project is a collaboration between Council ($2.7M) and the Victorian State Government ($750,000).

Sporting facility upgrades, completed in 2025, included:

  • Sports lighting globes on Oval 1
  • AFL netting

Stage 1 pavilion works will include:

  • Demolition of section of old pavilion
  • Excavation works and site preparation.

Stage 2 pavilion construction works will include:

  • Four new changerooms with female-friendly facilities (continuing our work to ensure women and girls have equal access to sports)
  • New public toilets, umpire facilities and upgraded first aid facilities and storage areas
  • Improved access to the sportsground and car park and new pathways surrounding the pavilion
  • Landscaping around the pavilion with seating and garden beds.

While the new facility is under construction, existing sport activity and access to the sportsground will continue to be accessible, but some temporary facilities will be installed on site for use by the clubs.

Mordialloc Braeside Junior Football Club and Kingston Hawthorn Cricket Club will be the primary beneficiaries of the upgraded pavilion, which will meet Kingston's Pavilion design guidelines requirements and provide flexible spaces to support the clubs growing and thriving through building connections with the local community.
