As part of our commitment to the community we are delivering a female friendly upgrade to the Highett Reserve Main Pavilion to improve facilities for players, officials and the wider community. The project focuses on modernising internal ground floor amenities to meet contemporary standards and relevant sporting guidelines.

Project details

Stage one (complete)

In 2025 new, fit-for-purpose public toilets were installed at Turner Reserve, adjacent to the pavilion.

These facilities replaced the former public toilets located within the pavilion, which had reached the end of their useful life and their removal has enabled improved changeroom functionality and accessibility.

Stage two (commencing February 2026)

The Highett Reserve Main Pavilion upgrade focuses on the pavilion’s ground floor facilities*, including:

  • Full redevelopment of changerooms, amenities and umpires’ rooms, to ensure the facilities are female friendly
  • Provision of accessible amenities and a dedicated first aid room
  • Facilities designed in line with AFL and Cricket Victoria guidelines
  • Enhanced storage areas and renewed amenities to modern standards

*The canteen and first floor areas are not included in this stage of works.

Timing and impacts

Works will commence in mid-February and are due for completion by end-July 2026 (weather permitting).

The pavilion car park will be closed during construction, pedestrian access will be maintained. There will be no disruption to public toilets or pedestrian crossings. Access to the pavilion will be restricted to the ground floor only, with the first floor remaining operational for the duration of the works. Temporary signage and fencing will be installed during construction for the safety of the community.

Construction noise may be experienced at times. We will minimise disruption wherever possible while maintaining a safe work site. We apologise for any inconvenience and appreciate your patience while these important improvements are delivered.

The $1.5 million Highett Reserve Pavilion upgrade is being developed by the City of Kingston ($1,175,000) in partnership with the Victorian Government ($325,000) through the Community Support Fund.
