The City of Kingston is inviting the community to share ideas to help shape the future of the Parkdale shopping strip.

Following the opening of the new Parkdale Station and elevated rail, Council is looking to revitalise the surrounding shopping area along Como Parade East and West and adjoining streets — with potential improvements such as new greenery, refreshed footpaths, street furniture, outdoor dining opportunities and safer, more welcoming spaces.

Mayor Georgina Oxley said the project is all about supporting local traders and creating a vibrant village atmosphere.

“By investing in our shopping strips, we’re helping small businesses to flourish and creating inviting public spaces where people want to spend time,” Cr Oxley said.

“This is the first stage of consultation, and we really want to hear from locals — what you love about Parkdale, and what you’d like to see improved. Your feedback will help us develop concept plans that truly reflect the community’s vision.”

Deputy Mayor Chris Howe said he is excited to see this project commencing.

“Parkdale is a much-loved local hub, and we want to make sure it remains a thriving, welcoming destination for residents, visitors and traders alike,” Cr Howe said.

We are currently in the early planning stages and will return to the community in 2026 to share draft concept designs for further feedback.

Community members can share their thoughts in person at upcoming pop-up engagement events in the Parkdale shopping strip on Saturday 25 October (10am - 1pm) and Tuesday 11 November (10am – 1pm).

This first round of consultation closes on Friday 14 November 2025.
