Better decisions start with community voices

The City of Kingston is calling on local residents, workers, students, volunteers and business owners to put their hand up for a unique opportunity to help shape the future of the city through its Kingston Represent Community Panel.
Following the success of the inaugural panel, Council is seeking 330 community members to join the next Kingston Represent cohort, providing valuable feedback on important projects, services and strategic decisions over the next two years.
Mayor Cr Georgina Oxley said Kingston’s strong commitment to community engagement was one of the reasons we continue to deliver outcomes that reflected local needs and aspirations.
"At Kingston, we believe the best decisions are made when they're informed by the people they impact," Cr Oxley said.
"Our community brings a wealth of experience, perspectives and local knowledge, and we are proud to involve residents in the decisions that help shape our city. Kingston Represent gives everyday people a genuine opportunity to have their say on important issues and contribute to the future direction of our community.
"You don't need any special qualifications or previous experience. We're simply looking for people who care about Kingston and are willing to share their views, listen to others and be part of the conversation."
Participants will have opportunities to complete online surveys, attend workshops and, for some members, take part in more in-depth deliberative discussions through a smaller panel. Feedback gathered through the process will be presented to Council to help inform decision-making.
Cr Oxley said Kingston Represent was designed to ensure a broad cross-section of the community was involved.
"We know we achieve better outcomes when we work alongside our community. By bringing together people from different backgrounds, ages and experiences, we can build a stronger understanding of what matters most to Kingston residents.
"I encourage anyone who lives, works, studies, volunteers or runs a business in Kingston to register their interest and be part of helping shape Kingston's future."
People aged 18 and over who live, work, study, volunteer or operate a business in Kingston are eligible to register. Participants will be randomly selected to ensure the panel reflects the diversity of the Kingston community.
