Nominations open to celebrate Kingston’s local legends

The City of Kingston is calling on the community to shine a light on the people and groups who quietly make a difference every day.
Nominations are now open for the 2026 Kingston Community Awards and Kingston Women of the Year Awards, recognising the volunteers, leaders, community groups and local champions who help make Kingston such a wonderful place to live, work and visit.
Kingston Mayor Georgina Oxley encouraged residents to think about the people in their lives, workplaces and communities who deserve a moment in the spotlight.
“Every community has those people who just get on with it; volunteering their time, supporting others, bringing people together or making a difference in ways that often go unnoticed,” Cr Oxley said.
“These awards are about celebrating those quiet achievers and local legends who make Kingston the wonderful community it is.
“You might know someone who has spent years volunteering, a woman who is making a difference in her field, a local group bringing people together, or someone who simply goes above and beyond for others.
“Take a moment to nominate them. It’s a wonderful way to say thank you and let them know that what they do matters.”
The Kingston Community Awards celebrate:
- Citizen of the Year – recognising an individual who has made a significant and lasting contribution to the Kingston community.
- Community Group of the Year – recognising a group or organisation delivering exceptional service or making a positive impact in the community.
Nominations for the Kingston Women of the Year Awards can be made across a range of categories, including:
- Courageous Commitment – honouring dedication to improving health, wellbeing, safety and/or sustainability.
- Excelling in Arts or Sport – celebrating women using their talents to inspire and motivate others.
- Impact in STEM or Innovation – recognising leaders making a difference in science, technology, business or entrepreneurship.
- Young Woman of the Year – Rising Star – recognising women aged 35 and under making a meaningful contribution.
Cr Oxley said the awards were an opportunity to celebrate the breadth of talent, generosity and community spirit across Kingston.
“Behind all the things that make Kingston such a great place are people who care – people who give their time, share their skills, look out for their neighbours and create opportunities for others,” Cr Oxley said.
“We know there are so many incredible stories in our community, and we want to hear them.
“Don’t assume someone else will nominate them. If you know a local legend who deserves to be recognised, put their name forward.”
Nominations close on Sunday 6 September 2026. For more information or to submit a nomination, visit kingston.vic.gov.au/community/awards.
