City Nature Challenge 2024

Join us for the 2024 City Nature Challenge from Friday 26 April - Monday 29 April!

All you need to do is snap a photo of a plant or animal during the four-day challenge and upload it to the iNaturalist nature app, making sure you include your location. 

What is the City Nature Challenge?

We are teaming up with over 25 Councils across metropolitan Melbourne, along with various environmental organisations and agencies, to represent Greater Melbourne in the City Nature Challenge - and we need your help to do it!

Why Participate?

There is nature all around us! Knowing what species are in our city and where they are helps us study and protect them. The only way to do that is by all of us working together to find and document the nature in our area. By participating in the City Nature Challenge, not only do you learn more about your local nature, but you can also contribute to making your city a better place – for you and other species!

How Does It Work?

Help us compete with cities from around the world by taking photos or making sound recordings of wild plants and animals between Friday 26 April and Monday 29 April 2024 using iNaturalist. You can download the easy-to-use app to your phone and upload your observations as you go, or use your camera and upload on your computer at home, just make sure that your location services are turned on!

When
