Welcome to NaNoWriMo at Kingston!

NaNoWriMo stands for National Novel Writing Month, an international online challenge where writers and non-writers alike challenge themselves to write a 50,000 word novel in 30 days. No experience necessary!

Are you up for the challenge?

Kingston Libraries will be hosting writing groups for kids, teens and adults throughout November, as well as a fiction writing workshop.

If you have always dreamed of writing a novel, now is your chance!

All events are presented via Zoom. The Zoom link will be emailed to you prior to the event.

Bookings are required for most events and can be made by phoning 1300 135 668, in person at any library branch, or by using our online booking service.

Fiction Writing Workshop with Nicolas Brasch

Wednesday 10 November 6:30-7:30pm

The workshop provides advice, tips and exercises on the fundamentals of writing. Nicolas uses his own experiences as a writer and teacher to create an easily understood and engaging experience. Suitable for ages 15+.

NaNoWriMo for Primary Schoolers

Wednesday 3 November 4:30-5:30pm

Wednesday 17 November 4:30-5:30pm

NaNoWriMo event for upper primary aged children (approx. 8-12 years).

The first session covers writing and everything that makes it great. We’ll discuss basic character development, story planning and other things you need to know to set yourself up for writing your first novel.

The second session is a chance to come back and share work and get some feedback to help you finish off the month.

NaNoWriMo for Secondary Schoolers

Thursday 4 November 5-6pm

Thursday 18 November 5-6pm

NaNoWriMo event for secondary school aged students (approx 12-18 years).

The first session covers writing and everything that makes it great. We’ll discuss basic character development, story planning and other things you need to know to set yourself up for writing your first novel.

The second session is a chance to come back and share work and get some feedback to help you finish off the month.
