Storytimes

Kingston Libraries offers a range of Storytime sessions to suit the various ages and needs of our younger community members and their families.

Due to current Covid restrictions, all in person storytimes are on hold. See Live Stream and Virtual Storytime for online options.

Please note: There are still some conditions to be aware of when visiting Kingston Libraries:

  • Limited building capacities means that you may need to wait a little while before entering
  • You will need to record your details for contact tracing purposes (including children)
  • Please practice social distancing - we suggest you bring along a blanket to sit on during storytime to help with this
  • Masks must be worn when visiting any Kingston Libraries branch.

Storytime

Storytime sessions are held weekly* at the libraries listed below. Storytime is a free service suitable for pre-school children aged 2 to 5.

Sessions include stories, rhymes and songs and are usually structured around a theme (like pets or dinosaurs).

Cheltenham Library Fridays at 10:30am
Clarinda Library Fridays at 10:30am

Tiny Tots Rhyme Time

Encourage a love of stories and reading with our Tiny Tots Rhyme Time program.

Enjoy an interactive 20 minute session full of songs, rhymes, books, and finger play. Learn techniques to develop your child's early literacy skills and discover the perfect books to choose for baby.

Enjoy the company of other babies and parents and get to see our new books for and about babies and toddlers before anyone else.

Tiny Tots Rhyme Time is suitable for children aged 0-24 months and their parents.

Auslan Storytime

Auslan Storytime is incorporated into the regular Friday Storytime sessions at Cheltenham Library on the second Friday of every month**.

Come and experience a visual language and join in for some stories and songs!

Auslan (Australian sign language) is the sign language of the Australian Deaf community.

 

Second Friday of the month at 10:30am:

10 September 8 October
12 November      10 December

Saturday Storytimes

Saturday Storytimes alternate between Chelsea and Cheltenham Libraries on a fortnightly basis. Perfect for families with children aged 0 to 5 years.

All Saturday Storytimes start at 10:30am. See below for a list of dates:

Bedtime Storytimes

Take advantage of the longer days in February and March with this great opportunity for an after-dinner storytime session for families with young children.

Put on your pyjamas and bring your teddy along for some storytime fun, with 30 minutes of books and rhymes at the library before going home to bed.

All Bedtime Storytimes start at 6:30pm. See below for a list of dates:

Sensitive Storytimes

Sensitive Storytime is designed for preschool aged children with additional needs or those who simply prefer a quieter, calmer, more subdued session.

Sensory needs around sound and light are taken into consideration and visual cues are used to help children follow what comes next in the session.

Enjoy short stories and songs, followed by simple sensory play activities in this 30 minute activity.
