Kingston Libraries run a school holiday program four times a year. Keep an eye out in September for the next school holiday program!

Kingston Libraries run a number of regular programs throughout the year for children and youth, from Tiny Tots Rhyme Time and Preschool Storytime for little ones, to after-school programs that are suitable for a variety of different ages, including Makerspaces where all ages are welcome.

Online Activities

Crafty Kids Online

Do you love doing arts and crafts? Then take a look at Crafty Kids Online!

Each fortnight during the school term we will be releasing a video with inspiration for a craft project for primary school kids. Get creative at home and have fun! Get social and help inspire others by sharing a photo of your crafty creation in the comments of our Virtual Crafty Kids Online Facebook Event.

Virtual LEGO® Club

Looking for a creative challenge? Join Kingston Libraries Virtual LEGO® Club and let your inner-engineer be inspired with weekly challenges.

Every Friday at 4pm we post a new challenge to our Virtual LEGO® Club Facebook event for you to tackle over the weekend. To participate, simply follow the event and share a photo of your creations in the event comments!

Kingston Miners

Kingston Miners Online Minecraft Club is a private Realm just for Kingston library members aged 8 to 12. Socialise, build and explore in our weekly sessions, with challenges, free building and minigames.

Places are limited, so bookings are essential! You can make a booking by phoning 1300 135 668.

Virtual STEAM Punk Club

Do you love to explore, learn, and see how things work, all with a touch of creativity? Then you'll love STEAM Punk Club! Better yet, this Virtual edition allows you to do it all from the comfort of home.

We'll be releasing a new activity to explore each fortnight at 4pm on Thursdays. To get involved simply watch the video and then have a go yourself! Get social and help inspire others by sharing a photo of your work in the comments of our Virtual STEAM Punk Club Facebook Event!

Storytime Live Stream

Storytime Live Stream sessions will be held Monday to Friday*. Storytime Live Stream is a free service suitable for pre-school children aged 0 to 5 and can be accessed online at the days and times listed below.

Sessions include stories, rhymes and songs and are usually structured around a theme (like pets or dinosaurs).

Seasonal and Ongoing Activities

1000 Books Before School

The 1000 Books Before School program encourages you to share books with your child in the years before they begin school. It is for children from birth to age 5 - it's never too early to start reading to your child!

Pen Pals

Kingston Libraries Pen Pals is a new program for kids to connect with their local library and community, providing them opportunities for engagement through writing or drawing and to share their experiences.

Story Lines Writing Competition

The 2020 Story Lines Writing Competition is on for children and youth aged 5 to 16! Write a G-rated short story or poem of up to 500 words about anything you like. Entry forms available to download online.

Crafty Kids

For primary school children in prep to grade 6 who love art and craft!

This monthly club at Clarinda Library allows kids to get creative with a variety of art and craft projects. Enjoy designing, creating and using your imagination. No bookings required.

Games Club

Do you love games and puzzles? Then you will love coming along to Westall Library for Games Club!

A monthly club at Westall Library for primary school kids where they can participate in and learn a variety of games, including board games, card games, online games, physical games, and various types of puzzles too. No bookings required.

LEGO® Club

Design, build, create and play at Kingston Libraries' monthly LEGO® Club! A mix of guided and free play sessions to encourage design, creativity, engineering, sharing, and collaboration.

LEGO® Club sessions will run from 4-5pm @ Chelsea Library on the fourth Wednesday of each month and Cheltenham Library on the third Thursday of each month! Suitable for primary school age children.

Little Book Worms

For kids in prep to grade 3 who love books and reading!

A monthly club at Parkdale Library with activities related to books, reading, authors, illustrators, crafts, puzzles, and simple games. No bookings required.

Makerspace

Minecraft

If you're aged 8 to 12 and enjoy playing adventure games, join us for Minecraft at Patterson Lakes and Clarinda Libraries!

Using a selection of specially crafted content maps ranging in difficulty levels for beginner to intermediate crafters, our sessions aim to develop a variety of skills including basic computer skills, problem-solving, working collaboratively, being a good cyber citizen, resilience and persistence, all while having a ton fun!

We have limited places in our Minecraft sessions, so bookings are essential. Please phone us on 1300 135 668 or ask at your local branch.

Please arrive on time as places will only be held for 10mins unless prior notice is given.

STEAM Punk Club

A monthly club at Parkdale, Cheltenham, and Chelsea Libraries for primary school children in prep to grade 6 which runs activities revolving around Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Maths (STEAM). Explore, discover, learn, design, engineer, build, problem solve, and create! No bookings required.

Storytime

You and your child will love Storytime at the library! Enjoy a fun 30 minute session of stories, action songs, rhymes, and puppets.

Storytime helps develop language, literacy, and fine motor skills. Best of all, Storytime fosters a love of books and reading!

Auslan Storytime

Auslan Storytime is incorporated into the regular Friday Storytime sessions at Cheltenham Library on the second Friday of every month*.

Come and experience a visual language and join in for some stories and songs!

Auslan (Australian sign language) is the sign language of the Australian Deaf community.

Saturday Storytime

Saturday Storytimes are returning early! Starting February 2020, Saturday Storytimes will be alternating between Chelsea and Cheltenham Libraries on a fortnightly basis. Perfect for families with children aged 0 to 5 years.

Tiny Tots Rhyme Time

Encourage a love of stories and reading with our Tiny Tots program.

Enjoy an interactive 20 minute session full of songs, rhymes, books, and finger play. Learn techniques to develop your child's early literacy skills and discover the perfect books to choose for baby. Enjoy the company of other babies and parents and get to see our new books for and about babies and toddlers before anyone else.

Tiny Tots Rhyme Time is suitable for children aged 0 to 24 months.
