2021 September-October School Holiday Program

Welcome to our September-October school holiday program. Due to current restrictions we have made a number of changes to the printed booklet

The following events are continuing, but as take-home or online activities

Drop-in Lucky Dip Craft and Drop-in Roman Mosaics Craft will be available as take-home activities to collect from Saturday 18 September to Sunday 3 October unless sold out. No bookings required. Limited supplies. Limit of 2 kits per child. Collect from Cheltenham, Parkdale, Clarinda and Patterson Lakes only. Check out our Roman Mosaics video for instructions and inspiration.

LEGO® Challenge do you have LEGO® at home? Get creative and see what you can make. Check out our inspiration photos on the Facebook event and then add photos of your own creations.

Folded Book Art try your hand at creating art with an old book at home. Nina shows you how to make a cute hedgehog design in this video. Ages 8+.

Storytime & Craft enjoy storytime and craft activities from home:

  • Where the heart is by Irma Gold - discover the heart-warming true story of Dindim the penguin and his rescuer Joao. Katrine will then show you a simple craft activity which helps explain how penguin feathers keep them warm and dry despite being wet. Watch the video here.
  • Leanne reads two stories about grandparents and then shares a simple craft. Grandparents and grandchildren can watch online together and then try out the craft activity. Watch the video here.

Newspaper Forts Check out our video for inspiration on building your very own fort or cubby house at home. Gather some neswpapers and start rolling! Add a few blankets and cushions and you'll have a cosy fort or cubby house. Watch the video here..

Bonus event: Kingston Miners Online will continue through the school holidays on Tuesdays at 4pm. Book your spot to join other 8-12 year olds in playing Minecraft online. Check out the requirements in the booking link.

Activities which have moved online

Monday 20 September

Dinosaurs & Fossils by Museums Victoria - 11am-12noon. Ages 4-8. Children will be able to see real dinosaur fossils from the Museums Victoria collection, learn about ancient time periods, see life-size replicas of dinosaur skulls, feet, and legs, and classify their favourite prehistoric creatures as herbivores or carnivores. Bookings required - the Zoom link will be emailed to you prior to the session.

Tuesday 21 September

Aboriginal Culture with Ron Murray online via Zoom 10-11am. An activity allowing families with primary school aged children to experience Aboriginal culture, with a focus on music, storytelling and Indigenous history. Bookings required - the Zoom link will be emailed to you prior to the session.

Retro 80's Zumba for Kids 10:30-11:30am. Ages 6-12. Kid-friendly routines based on original Zumba choreography. Perfect for our younger Zumba fans! Kids 6-12 years old get the chance to be active and jam out to 80's music. BYO water bottle. Bookings required.

Author talk with Anna Ciddor online via Zoom - 11:15am-12:15pm. Meet children's author Anna Ciddor online and hear her talk all about books and writing. Anna's latest book is 'The boy who stepped through time'. Bring along a dice for a game Anna will play with you all. Bookings required - the Zoom link will be emailed to you prior to the session.

Card Making with Cricut - Can be completed anytime - Ages 8+. Book this activity and you will be able to collect a take-home card making kit. Watch the video to see how our new Cricut machines work and make a card to share with someone special. Ahoy Pirates - Can be completed anytime - Book this activity and you will be able to collect a pirate themed craft from the library. Watch Nina reading a pirate story and show you how to make the craft in this video. Bookings required - please note which library you would like to collect your kit from - Cheltenham, Parkdale, Clarinda and Patterson Lakes only.

Thursday 23 September

Dreadful Dragons Show online via Zoom - 10:30-11:30am. A theatrical performance by Carp Productions. King Cranky Pants' court is in an uproar. Sir Lee, his famous Knight, has disappeared and a fierce fire breathing dragon is heading straight toward his castle. He needs a hero to save the day. Bookings required - the Zoom link will be emailed to you prior to the show.

27 September

Illustration Workshop with Marc McBride online via Zoom - 10:30-11:30am. Ages 8+. Marc McBride is the illustrator of the Deltora Quest books. Learn how he creates his artwork and then learn how to draw your own dragon. Have some paper and pencils ready to practice your own drawing. Bookings required - the Zoom link will be emailed to you prior to the session.
