When is my bin day?

There are 3 different options to check your bin day.

Note: Household and business bin collections continue to operate on public holidays and major holiday periods.

You can receive a notification the night before your bin day to let you know which bins to put out.

Check the waste collection map(PDF, 760KB) for your collection area, then find your bin day on the waste calendars.

How often are my bins collected?

  • landfill bins (red lid) are collected weekly
  • recycle bins (yellow lid) are collected fortnightly 
  • food and garden waste bins (green lid) bins are collected fortnightly.  

Your recycle bin and food and garden waste bin will be collected on alternate weeks.

What do I do if my bin was missed?

If your bin was missed during collection, report a missed bin online or contact our Customer Care Team on 1300 653 356 within one business day.

Leave your bin out on the nature strip and do not remove it until it has been emptied.

What do I do if my bin is damaged?

If the lid or wheels on your bin are damaged, you can have them repaired. If your bin is damaged beyond repair, you can have it replaced.

Bin repair

We can replace or repair the following bin parts:

  • the lid of the bin
  • the pin that connects your lid to the bin
  • the wheels.

Your bin is considered damaged beyond repair if:

  • the body of the bin is split or has holes
  • the base of the bin is broken
  • the handle is damaged.

What do I do if my bin is missing?

If your bin is missing, report a missing bin online or contact our Customer Care Team on 1300 653 356.

When should I put my bin out for collection?

Put your bin out on the nature strip the night before your bin day. Once emptied, remove your bin by midnight on your bin day.

Bins left on the kerb may result in a fine. 

Will my bin still be collected on a public holiday?

Yes. Bins are collected on public holidays and over major holiday periods (including Easter, Christmas Day, and New Year’s Eve). 

How do I request a new or different sized bin?

Residential

To change your bin size, waste choice or to order additional bins, please complete the change to residential waste service bins(PDF, 263KB) form or call us on 1300 653 356.

Business

Council offers a waste collection service to some commercial properties such as shops, offices and factories: 

Please note garden waste bins are not available with commercial bin services.

Not for profits

Use this online form to request or renew bins if you are a not-for-profit organisation.

Why is there a sticker on my bin?

A sticker may be placed on your bin if there are incorrect items in there. The sticker will list the incorrect items.

Once you’ve removed the items, call us on 1300 653 356 to arrange for your bin to be emptied.

Where should I place my bin for collection?

Put your bin on the nature strip out the front of your house. If you live in a cul-de-sac or court, place your bins outside the truck turning zone.

  • place your bin out with our logo facing the street
  • leave at least 30cm of space between each bin
  • do not place your bin too close to trees or parked cars
  • do not overfill your bin 
  • do not place out extra bags of boxes and rubbish. 

How do I report illegally dumped rubbish?

If you see anyone dumping rubbish, note down their vehicle details. Report dumped rubbish online call 1300 653 356 and we will arrange for an Officer to investigate. 

I never have enough room in my recycling bin, what can I do?

You can request a second recycling bin for free. Call us on 1300 653 356 to arrange. 

Why can’t I put my recycling in plastic bags?

When recyclables are placed in a bag, they can't be sorted and will be sent to landfill. It is too dangerous and time consuming for hand sorters to open plastic bags.
