Household batteries are hazardous and must not be placed in any household bin. They can cause fires and leak toxic chemicals.

Many supermarkets and stores have collection points with special bins for disposing of batteries.

There are also more collection points listed on B-Cycle.

We've partnered with locally-based business UPPAREL to make it easier for Kingston residents to give their pre-loved clothing a second life.

Simply:

  1. Pack your unwanted items into a box
  2. Book your collection online
  3. Leave your box at your front door for collection

UPPAREL will collect your box and pass any fit-for-wear items to charities or recycle damaged items by turning them into a new material that can be used to make a range of sustainable products.

Kingston residents are eligible for a discounted collection fee:
10kg box = $30
20kg box = $65

Learn more and book a collection with UPPAREL.

To donate, give away or sell clean items find your nearest Op Shop or refer to Facebook Marketplace or Gumtree.

You can sell certain brands and designer clothes to Swop and Mutual Muse or list on specialised online clothing selling sites such as Depop, Yordrobe or Carousel.

If damaged, book a collection with UPPAREL or place clothing in your landfill bin (red lid).

Leather scraps, offcuts, and damaged items like belts and bags all need to go in the landfill bin (red lid) if they can't be reused.

Please consider donating leather goods in good condition at your local Op Shop.

For more sustainable disposal options of leather items that can't be donated, consider dropping off at participating clothing stores such as:

  • H&M for free recycling
  • Send to Upparel for a small fee
