The '1000 Books Before School' program encourages you to share books with your child in the years before they begin school. It is for children from birth to age 5 - it's never too early to start reading to your child! The literacy skills they develop simply from being read to will prepare them for school and nurture a love of books, language and reading.
What counts towards 1,000 books?
You can read a thousand different books, or read one book a thousand times! Books read at library story time sessions, preschool, daycare and playgroup can also be counted towards your child's total.
There are milestone rewards to collect from the library as you progress through the program and of course a certificate at the end. The program is complete when your child reaches 1,000 books or they start school.
