Accessible beach matting (new to Kingston)
In late 2016, Kingston City Council purchased a 60 metre long beach mat to be used at Mordialloc Beach. The beach matting is made of recycled rubber which provides a firm platform across the soft sand to the water’s edge to enable accessible beach access for people who use a wheelchair, have mobility difficulties and older people.
The beach matting is being trialled at Mordialloc Beach over the 2016/2017 summer season with the support of Mordialloc Life Saving Club. The matting will be rolled out by volunteer lifeguards on weekends during Mordialloc Life Saving Club’s patrolled hours.
Where: Mordialloc Lifesaving Club, Beach Road, Mordialloc
When: Available Saturday and Sunday during the life saving club’s patrol hours (12pm to 5.30pm) from December 2016 to April 2017.
Who: Anyone can use the matting, however the beach matting is primarily to assist people who use a wheelchair or have difficulty with their mobility.
