Sporting upgrades at Chadwick Reserve

Council is providing improved sporting facilities at Chadwick Reserve to meet growing demand for junior AFL facilities.

What is included:

  • a new, larger pavilion replacing the current aged building featuring female-friendly change rooms, disability access, umpire’s facilities and a community room
  • improved playing surface on the junior AFL/cricket oval and training area
  • lighting for the playing areas
  • new playground and shared paths.

The project has been split into two stages with Stage 1 works to begin in November 2019 to create the sporting fields, lighting and landscaping, with the aim of commencing games at the site from April 2020.

Construction update:

 Wednesday 10 February 2021

 - The play space upgrade is expected to commence in late February 2021. These works include landscaping, playground upgrade, bmx track upgrade, new basketball half-court, new fencing and path works.

- Civil drainage works will commence in March 2021. These works will include drainage works on Howard Road that will result in some local traffic disruptions that will be managed with temporary controls. Further advice will be provided to surrounding properties regarding the impacts on Howard Road. 

- Power upgrade works on Howard Road are expected to be completed in early March 2021.

- As temporary fencing will be used to enable works, access to the playing fields and dog off leash area will be reduced. Signage will be installed for wayfinding. Car parking spaces in the Reserve will also be reduced during construction.

- Construction of a new pavilion is expected to commence by early-mid 2021. Temporary facilities will be in use to support club usage. Path lighting is also scheduled to be installed following the completion of the pavilion project (late 2021/early 2022).

Wednesday 6 May

- Awaiting confirmation on light pole delivery. Expected completion late May.

Monday 20 April

- Finalising path works
- Site clean-up
- Hand over of new oval planned for late April
- Consultation for landscaping and playground (stage 3) open for feedback here
- The timeframe for the supply of sports lights towers remains unknown and is subject to supply from China.

Thursday 26 March

- Nearing the completion of Stage 1 works
- Footings for the sports lighting tower is planned to occur late March/early April
- Site tidy up and contractor exit from site in April
- The new oval is planned for handover late April, including walking trails
- The timeframe for the supply of sports lights towers remains unknown and is subject to supply from China.


Friday 13 March

- Turf maintenance ongoing
- Perimeter footpath works ongoing
- Ball catch net poles planned for mid/end March
- Shelters to be installed mid/end March
- Awaiting confirmation on light pole delivery.

Wednesday 26 February 

Stage 2 consultation on the new pavilion and landscaping improvements is now underway. Please click here for more information and to have your say.


Monday 17 February

- Turf maintenance is ongoing
- Synthetic turf on the cricket wicket complete
- Perimeter path works to commence mid/late February
- Ball catch fence to be installed
- Oval fencing to be completed.

Stage 2 Consultation: wider community consultation will commence in late February with community drop-in sessions held in March. More detail coming soon.

 

Friday 20 December

Works will continue to take place over the Christmas/holiday period as part of the development of improved sporting facilities at Chadwick Reserve. 

Works will not take place on Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year’s Day. 

The works will include:

  • Sports field drainage
  • Concrete edging and oval fencing
  • Irrigation works
  • Playing surface formation, including importing of sand.

Limited machinery will be used to perform the works with inconvenience and disruptions minimised wherever possible. Contractors on site will continue to monitor conditions providing dust suppression via a water tanker when necessary. 

Tuesday 17 December

Works planned to occur between late December and mid January will include:

- Sports field drainage
- Concrete edging and oval fencing
- Playing surface formation including importing of sand
- Irrigation works
- A water truck will be used for dust suppression during this period.

Friday 13 December

Irrigation works will take place this weekend (Saturday 14 December). Limited machinery will be used to perform the works with inconvenience and disruptions minimised wherever possible.  

Tuesday 27 November 

With windy weather forecast, Council’s contractor will be using a water truck to supress the dust on the ovals.

Sports ground works will take place this weekend (Saturday 30 November). Limited machinery will be used to perform the works with inconvenience and disruptions minimised wherever possible.  

Tuesday 12 November

Council’s contractor is on-site this week, installing temporary fencing, signage, site sheds and the works compound (please see site map below).

Oval preparation work is also beginning. This work involves spraying the western (larger) sporting field with a Glyphosate weed killer.

Safety precautions during spraying include:

  • The area will be fully fenced off from the public
  • The contractor is fully compliant with the prescribed use and safety procedures for the application
  • Spraying will only be done during suitable weather conditions
  • Works will be fully supervised by Council staff
  • Signage will be erected on the site.
