Responsible Pet Care Campaign
The Department of Environment and Primary Industries have launched a Responsible Pet Care Campaign to encourage greater understanding of the welfare and behaviour needs of pets.
The Responsible Pet Care campaign was launched in response to a survey of 1,629 pet owners that found some Victorian pets were not receiving the care they needed. For example, 63 per cent of dogs were not walked daily and 29 per cent of cats were not vaccinated.
The key message of the campaign is that all pet owners have a duty of care to protect the welfare of their animals and ensure their daily needs are met. This includes providing them with a suitable diet, keeping them healthy and meeting their environment, behavioural and social needs.
