Smooth sailing ahead for the new Parkdale Yacht Club facility
27 June 2018
Planning will proceed full-steam ahead on the ageing Parkdale Yacht Club following interest from a number of community groups to share the new $2.35m facility.
Kingston Mayor Steve Staikos said the building was in need of replacement and the rebuilt facility would meet the needs of the yacht club plus other community groups for years to come.
“We have been investing significantly in sporting facilities, kindergartens and life-saving clubs right across the municipality, and the Parkdale Yacht Club is next in line for much-needed improvements,” Cr Staikos said.
“We want to make the most of this fantastic new building by opening it up to other community groups throughout the week,” Cr Staikos said.
Cr Staikos said Council had invited community groups to apply to share the site and were pleased with the outcome.
“The Parkdale Yacht Club will be joined by the Mentone Girl Guides and Beach Patrol Australia, with each group making a positive contribution to our community.”
Officers will report back to Council once they have prepared detailed designs for the site, called for community feedback on the plans and sought tenders from builders to deliver the project.
