Fantastic new kindergarten facilities for Chelsea and Chelsea Heights
23 August 2016
Works are set to begin on a new Chelsea Kindergarten and improvement works at Chelsea Heights Kindergarten after Kingston Council last night appointed a local Cheltenham builder to complete the exciting community projects.
The new Chelsea Kindergarten will be built next to the Chelsea Primary School while the Chelsea Heights Preschool will be fully refurbished at its current location.
Mayor Tamsin Bearsley said the $2.55million project was part of Council’s and the Victorian Government’s ongoing investment into quality early learning centres in the municipality over many years.
“This is a great outcome for the Chelsea and Chelsea Heights communities and will result in terrific facilities to give our children a great start,” Cr Bearsley said.
Cheltenham’s Cellstruct Building Group has been awarded a $2.55million contract to complete the works.
Construction on the new Chelsea Kindergarten is expected to start in October 2016 with transition to the new facility to take place during Term 3 2017.
Students from Chelsea Heights kindergarten will then use the vacant old Chelsea Kindergarten building
during improvements works at their site, which are expected to be completed by the end of Term 1 2018.
“Council hopes to support local businesses and promote local job creation and it’s fantastic to see a local construction company appointed to the project,” Cr Bearsley said.
