Major improvements underway at Walter Galt Reserve

3 January 2017

Major improvement works are now underway at Mordialloc’s Walter Galt Reserve to help boost the
popular park.

Upgrades will include an improved sport field playing surface, new pathways, an exercise station, basketball half court, new soccer goals, tree plantings and picnic shelter.

Mayor David Eden said the $700,000 improvement works were part of Council’s ongoing investment in sports grounds, parks and open spaces across Kingston.

“These upgrades will ensure the local community has access to top-quality facilities for organised sport, walking, exercising, having fun and enjoying the great outdoors,” Cr Eden said.

“The works will deliver an improved playing surface that is safer, easier to maintain and able to manage the high-use at the reserve.”

“During the construction works public access to some sections of the park will be limited, but we’re sure the community will be pleased with the end result.”

The existing dog off-lead area at Walter Galt Reserve will be relocated during the works to the eastern side of the main oval.

Signage will be installed at the park to notify dog owners and the public, and will clearly state that off-lead dogs must remain under their owner’s effective control and be kept a minimum of 20metres away from the playground at all times.

Once the improvement works are complete, new tree plantings and landscaping works will be conducted in autumn 2017.
