Hannie Rayson’s one-woman show Hello, Beautiful! at Kingston Arts
13 January 2017
One of Australia’s most celebrated playwrights is bringing her one-woman show to Kingston Arts.
Hannie Rayson, writer of the Australian classic Hotel Sorrento that was made into an award-winning film, has adapted her bestselling memoir into an hour-long comic storytelling delight.
Hello, Beautiful! is written and performed in the style of David Sedaris and Nora Ephron - true stories from a life spiced with wit, social observation and intimacy.
Hannie road-tested the content during her book tour across Australian from Perth to Far North Queensland. From country town halls to woolsheds, to prisons and theatres, audience members said: “You should do your own show”…so she did.
A trained actor who has spent her working life as a playwright and journalist, found herself wanting to bring together the writer and performer in her own show.
“In writing the memoir, I imagined my audience, the reader, tucked up in bed, laughing out loud. I wrote as though I were talking to a friend,” Hannie says.
Tuesday 21 and Wednesday 22 March, 8pm
Kingston Arts Centre, 979 Nepean Highway Moorabbin
