Kingston Council seeks grant to build new kindergarten for Mentone
9 August 2016
Kingston Council will apply for a $650,000 grant to help build a new, improved Acacia Avenue Preschool on the grounds of the nearby Mentone Park Primary School.
Council has committed $1.35million to the $2million project and will apply for funding under the Victorian Government’s Early Years Facilities grants.
Kingston Mayor Tamsin Bearsley said Council had been working closely with the kindergarten and school communities on this exciting project.
“The Acacia Avenue Preschool provides a fantastic service and is very popular but the building is ageing and no longer able to meet future needs or growing demand,” Cr Bearsley said.
“We’re working to provide our community with a fantastic new $2million kindergarten facility co-located with Mentone Park Primary to help build valuable learning links.”
The current ageing kindergarten building, which is located in Southern Road Reserve would then be removed and the land restored to increase much-needed open space to the park.
“This represents a great result for families and the broader community,” Cr Bearsley said.
