Kingston projects funded in Victorian Budget

4 May 2018

Kingston Council has welcomed funding for a range of local projects under the Victorian Government Budget.

Mayor Steve Staikos said he was pleased to see a number of important local projects including the redevelopment of three life saving clubs and funding to plan new sportsfields in Kingston’s green wedge.

The Budget included funding for the Mentone LifeSaving Club, the Aspendale Life Saving Club and the Bonbeach Life Saving Club with a combined $6million in funding.

“In recent years Council has jointly funded Life Saving upgrades at Carrum, Mordialloc and the Edithvale project which is now underway,” Cr Staikos said. “Kingston Council is pleased to see funding has been approved to redevelop the Mentone, Aspendale and Bonbeach life saving clubs and we look forward to working with the Victorian Government to get these projects up and running.”

Cr Staikos said Council was also pleased that the Victorian Government had committed $300,000 for the planning of the sports fields in Kingston's green wedge.

“Kingston Council had sought support from the state government to plan for a new regional sports facility at the Delta site in the green wedge, so we’re thrilled that funding has been allocated. A new facility could provide much-needed new sportsgrounds and help relieve pressure on existing sportsgrounds right across Kingston and in surrounding suburbs. It will also form part of the exciting transition that will see the end of the waste industry in favour of new public parklands.”

The Victorian State Budget also included:

  • an additional $75million to upgrade the Mordialloc Bypass to a four-lane freeway connection between the Mornington Peninsual Freeway at Springvale Road and Dingley Bypass (total project funding $375million).
  • $50million for the Carrum Promenade revitalisation as part of the Level Crossing Removal project

A number of Kingston schools also received funding in the year’s budget including:

Bonbeach Primary, Carrum Primary, Chelsea Heights Primary, Edithvale Primary, Patterson Lakes Primary, Mentone Park Primary, Westall Primary & Secondary, Yarrabah School.
