Kingston Council to cease use of Glyphosate weed killer

6 November 2019

Kingston Council will cease using Glyphosate weed killer to make local parks and reserves safer for all.

Kingston Mayor Georgina Oxley said Councillors had responded to community concerns about the use of Glyphosate weed killer in local parks following a recent 12-month trial. “We will be engaging hand weeding at all Council playgrounds as soon as possible and will be phasing out use in all other areas,” Cr Oxley said.

“We will be immediately reducing our use of the weed killer and putting new arrangements in place so we can move towards being Glyphosate-free by 2020, where contractually possible.”

Cr Oxley said Council had listened to community concerns and were happy to invest extra ratepayer funds in order to cease the use of Glyphosate.

“This will ease the concerns of our community and ensure our parks and reserves are kept safe and weed-free.”
