Join us to celebrate International Women’s Day

13 February 2020

Kingston will celebrate leading women in our community on International Women’s Day – and the community is invited to come along.

The winner of the 2nd annual Kingston Woman of the Year Award will be announced at the event, which showcases the achievements of local women in all spheres of community life.

Kingston Mayor Georgina Oxley said Kingston is proud to present the Woman of the Year Award for the second time following a huge response in its first year.

“We were overwhelmed by the community response to the inaugural Woman of the Year Awards. I encourage the community to join with us for this year’s inspiring event,” Cr Oxley said. “We have received 18 nominations from a diverse group of inspiring women who are making a positive difference in our community through their exceptional professional, volunteer or personal achievements.”

We are celebrating nominees across three categories:

• Courageous Commitment: women dedicated to making a difference to the health, wellbeing, safety and/or sustainability of our community through advocacy, campaigning, fundraising and/or thought-leadership.

• Excelling in Arts and Sport: using sporting and/or creative talents to represent, motivate and inspire our community.

• Inspiring Innovation: leaders in Business, Economics, Politics and/or an Entrepreneur.

The event will be hosted by Carla Anderson who is profoundly deaf and an icon of the deafblind community. Carla was also inducted into the Lifetime Achievement Honour Roll as part of the 2019 Victorian Disability Award.
