Enjoy movies under the stars this Autumn at Kingston’s Outdoor Cinema

29 March 2021

Kingston residents have a fantastic new local event to look forward to over ten days this Autumn: Kingston’s Outdoor Cinema, which will be held from 8-17 April at Sir William Fry Reserve in Highett.

Kingston Mayor Steve Staikos said Kingston’s Outdoor Cinema will be a family-friendly event that will provide community members with an opportunity to connect and celebrate, as COVID-19 restrictions continue to ease.

“We’ve all missed being out and about catching up with friends and enjoying entertainment together,” Cr Staikos said. “Our Outdoor Cinema is a perfect night out for the whole family and is free to attend.”

Along with movies under the stars there will be food and drinks, and music to set the mood for a great night. “Community members can hire a beanbag or bring along a rug then settle in for a movie on us,” said Cr Staikos.

“The movie line-up will include a mix of classic films and family favourites. Make sure you get down early to grab a bite from one of our vendors and enjoy some live music before each evening’s screening commences. Don’t forget to stop by the candy bar to grab a movie snack and support the Kingston Charitable Fund.”

Movies to screen at Kingston’s Outdoor Cinema will include:

  • Thursday 8 April: Charlie and the Chocolate Factory (PG)
  • Friday 9 April: Wonder Woman 1984 (M)
  • Saturday 10 April: Rock of Ages (M)
  • Sunday 11 April: Aladdin (2019) (G)
  • Monday 12 April: The Fast and the Furious (M)
  • Tuesday 13 April: Breakfast Club (M)
  • Wednesday 14 April: Trolls World Tour (G)
  • Thursday 15 April: The Sapphires (PG)
  • Friday 16 April: Dirty Dancing (M)
  • Saturday 17 April: Sherlock Holmes (2009) (M)

To ensure the event meets health and safety requirements, numbers will be strictly limited, and bookings will be required. Council will also adhere to physical distancing measures, QR code check-in systems and have sanitiser available onsite.

“Council has launched Kingston’s Outdoor Cinema in line with the State Government’s new Public Events Framework,” said Cr Staikos. “Due to the uncertainty around COVID-19 restrictions we made the difficult decision to put Mordi Fest on hold for the year; and will continue monitoring the situation in Victoria with the hope to bring it back in 2022.”
