| Renowned street artists Andrew Bourke and James Beattie are working on an extraordinary mural that is inspired by Cheltenham’s history, diversity and natural surroundings. The artwork is an impressive 40 metres long and 3.6 metres high.
The artwork, which is expected to be finished in late October, includes a section of abstract shapes and patterns that will almost merge into trails of colour when seen from train windows. There are also fantastic and detailed images that reflect Cheltenham’s history, from the bush and parkland and the local Indigenous tribe through to early shopfronts and buildings, and iconic local residents. A portrait of St Kilda player Trevor Barker, who is buried at the nearby cemetery, is also included in the artwork.
Andrew and James, who have worked on numerous inner-city projects, are excited to bring their talents to Kingston. Both artists, who are mentoring two teenage boys while working on the piece, were heavily influenced by street art from an early age and their works are respected by youth.
Kingston CEO John Nevins said the mural would be an exciting addition to Cheltenham’s retail, residential and business precinct. | |
