Village Committee meetings kick off next week  Printer Friendly

The City of Kingston’s 10 Village Committees will begin their 2012 meetings from next week with 16 new members.

Village Committees provide an important link in Council’s communication process.

Members of the Village Committees are all volunteers who take on extra roles and responsibilities for the benefit of their local community. Council is pleased to welcome 16 new members onto the Committees this year.

The Village Committees provide a forum for Council consultation in the preparation of the annual Council Budget, Corporate Plan review, and major policy and strategy development, as they relate to the local community of each Village Committee.

Committees also provide feedback to Council on the implementation of Council policies and programs, make recommendations to Council regarding the provision of monetary grants to local groups and organisations and identify local issues of concern to the local community or village committee.

Village Committee members represent a cross section of local residents, property owners and sporting, educational, cultural, business and charitable groups.  Membership of each of the Village Committees is limited to 12 members, however currently there are vacancies on eight of the committees.

The application process involves a short, informal interview with the Chair of the committee and an available ward Councillor(s). Anyone who is interested in becoming a member of one of the Village Committees can contact Phil DeLosa, Governance Program Leader on 9581 4710.
