Home>Council & Services>Kingston Libraries>Your Borrowing>Kingston has gone Web 2.0: Introducing LibraryThing
| What is LibraryThing? | | LibraryThing allows you to:
- Create your own personal online catalogue of books.
- Rate and categorise (tag) books you have read.
- Find new books to read by similar authors or on similar topics.
- Get book recommendations.
- Interact with people who enjoy the same reading interests. You can check out
other people's libraries, see who has the most similar library to yours
and swap reading suggestions.
LibraryThing is very easy to use and free to join. Visit www.librarything.com and create a account
today.
And if you are confused by any of the LibraryThing "lingo" such as tags, you
can find out more by visiting the LibraryThing Concepts page.
| How is Kingston involved? | | Kingston is privileged to be the first library in Australia to provide its patrons with LibraryThing built into our online catalogue. Now when you use our online catalogue and click on the title of a book, you will be able to:
- Find new books to read by similar authors or on similar topics.
- Use the tags you and others have added in LibraryThing to find books you're interested in.
- Coming soon you will also be able to rate and review books in our catalogue.
We used to use the online catalogue to find books by authors we were already aware of. Now we can browse the collection and find books we never knew existed. LibraryThing creates a completely different way to interact with the library catalogue, and provides a great way to further your reading/knowledge/enjoyment.
| How can you be part of it? | | The easiest way to benefit is to simply search our online catalogue and click
on the titles of book you receive in your search results. To take the next step
and participate in the community (like adding tags and rating books), sign up
for a free account at www.librarything.com
