Helping young people become safer drivers

Kingston Council, in partnership with RoadSafe South East, is helping fund workshops to educate young people about personal safety and responsibility on our roads.

Fit to Drive (f2d) is a community program that teaches strategies to young people to make them safer on the road.

F2d actively encourages and empowers young people, as road users, to look after themselves and their friends.

Young people aged 18-25 years were overrepresented in crash statistics, making up 24.7% of drivers killed or injured on Kingston roads (2005-2009). As a community we need to target the overrepresentation of young people in crash statistics.

Funding is available for Year 11 workshops in secondary schools and TAFE colleges in Kingston. The sessions are facilitated by trained University students, known as peer facilitators or Road Safety Ambassadors.

For more information, or if your school is interested in getting involved, please visit www.f2d.com.auor contact Council’s Road Safety Officer on 1300 653 356.
