Ready to unravel the secrets of your family's past? National Family History Month is here!

An initiative of the Australasian Federation of Family History Organisations, held every year in August, events will be conducted across Australia and online that focus on genealogy, family history, heraldry and related subjects. See below for family history related events and resources available at Kingston Libraries, or visit the National Family History Month website for details of other events happening around Victoria and other states!

How to Write a Non-Boring
Family History

Thursday, August 31, 1:30-3pm.

Hazel Edwards presents her popular workshop on how to write a family history for your loved ones that is memorable, engaging and not boring.

Suitable for those wishing to improve their writing skills, contemplating or struggling with a book length project, or writing family history anecdotes for younger family members.

This is a free event. Bookings required.

Online Resources

Kingston Libraries has subscriptions to Ancestry.com.au and FindMyPast that you can access and make use of for free at any Kingston Library branch. Please note: These resources cannot be accessed from home.

If you visit the Family History Resources page on our website, you'll find a list of other useful resources in addition to Ancestry.com.au and FindMyPast that are free to access online and can help you in your family history research.

Family History Volunteers

Need help with your family history research? Library staff are only able to offer minimal assistance, however we do have experienced volunteers that can help you start your search and make suggestions for the appropriate resources for you to use to continue on.

You can see a volunteer at Parkdale Library at the following times:

  • Wednesday 1:00-4:00
  • Fridays (except the second Friday of the month) 10:00-1:00
  • The first Sunday afternoon of the month, 2:00-4:00 pm.

You can make a booking on a Genealogy computer during these times by ringing 1300 135 668.

Please note our Family History Volunteers are not available during January.
